Like the rest of the nation, we are saddened and disappointed that current events have lead to the suspension or cancellation of so many sports seasons.  But in times of uncertainty, such as this one, it is important to take every precaution to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our community.

You may be experiencing a pause or delay in your season, and you may even be stuck at home.  But just because you can’t take the field doesn’t mean you can’t do your best to take advantage of the situation.  Maybe there is a new hobby you can pick up.  Or maybe now is a good time to plan some family activities.  Or you can even train yourself at home to stay at the top of your game once your season resumes.

The possibilities are seemingly endless.  Don’t be distraught over the current state of things, but also don’t let this opportunity pass you by to try something new.  Here are four things athletes and sports families can do while waiting for their seasons to resume.

  1. ESPORTS

Video games have been around for decades and somehow seem to grow more popular every year.  No wonder why the NBA, NHL, and the NFL all have their own esports leagues, and MLB has one of the most popular sports video games every year.  Gaming is a multi-billion dollar business and growing, so why not take this time to hone in on your timing and reflexes and complete your gaming room with all of the necessary equipment and accessories?

  1. SPORTS MOVIE MARATHON

If you find yourself really missing baseball, why not get caught up on some of the best stories from the diamond that appeared on the big screen?  Whether you prefer a dramatic story of a team finding a new way to compete and win, or a laugh out loud comedy about a group of misfits that come together to take their team to new heights, there is a baseball movie for you, not matter what kind of mood you are in.  It may not be the same as stepping into the batter’s box yourself, but these might just be enough to hold you over till the season starts

  1. SOLIDIFY YOUR HOME

With the weather getting nicer, now is as good a time as any to update your home security to further protect those inside your house walls.  Perhaps you need a new video doorbell, motion capture lights, or maybe even a new camera system, if it gives you piece of mind it’s probably a good thing to have.  And the best thing about all of these:  All are affordable projects and can be easily installed yourself in no time!

       4.  TRAIN YOUR GAME AT HOME

If baseball is in your blood, you can’t forget about the game no matter what.  If that’s the case, there are plenty of ways for you to keep you skills sharp while at home.  Whether you are looking to perfect your throwing motion, or keep your batting eye sharp, check out these tips and drills you can perform by yourself to stay in game shape.

So there are plenty of ways to keep busy during this time.  And who knows, maybe you will find a new hobby you love or a new favorite movie.  Or maybe you will even learn how to take your ballgame to the next level.

Just because you have been handed some extra down time, doesn’t mean you have to spend it being down.
