With the 2022 MLB season winding down, it only means one thing: Playoff baseball is right around the corner. Some may argue that this is one of the most exciting times of the year, and I, tend to agree. With only a few weeks left in the regular season, the playoff brackets are filling in. We decided to break it down and go through some of the probabilities of the bracket in preparation for our 2022 MLB Postseason bracket challenge (More on that later).

The Los Angeles Dodgers were the first team to clinch a playoff berth, with the Houston Astros and the New York Mets following shortly after. And while these teams have secured spots, the Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, and San Diego Padres continue to fight for the last remaining Wild Card spots. Here are the current clinched spots:

  • Dodgers: Clinched NL West, 1st Round Bye
  • Astros: Clinched AL West, 1st Round Bye
  • Mets: Clinched Playoff Berth
  • Braves: Clinched Playoff Berth
  • Yankees: Clinched Playoff Berth

 

As we peak a little further into the bracket for the 2022 Postseason, it appears that whatever team officially lands the first WC spot is going to have a tough road. It may still be a little early to make any definitive predictions for who will ultimately get that spot, though the team who comes out on top will be greeted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were the fastest team in the entire league to reach 100 wins.

In the AL, it will most definitely come down to the last series as there are many things still shuffling around, especially with the teams fighting for a WC spot. The Rays, Mariners, and Blue Jays are all picking things up as the season wraps up, making the end of the season more and more interesting. It will definitely be important to watch all the way down to the wire to see how the bracket ends up!
